Obligato alternatives for pizz?

My first bass ... Strunal 50/4 blond. I'm very happy with it. It was strung with Obligatos, and now, some 4 months later, I notice a break in the steel wrapping, at the bridge, on the E and A strings. I can only assume they're nearing the end of their useful life. I've been happy with the tone and volume (roots and Americana music, mostly) and play 100% pizzicato. Any recommendations for my next strings?

I'm thinking of trying Innovation Super Silvers. I'm not a slap bassist, although I do slap sometimes when the mood is right. Mostly, I just want a deep, clear bass tone, with some sustain (but not ringing). Again, I play 100% pizz.

Thanks!

I just put a set of lightly used Eurosonics on my '70s Engelhardt. I play a lot of root-five myself (see the link my sig) and like the thump so far.

I think the slots in your bridge are not cut correctly, the strings shouldn't be seperating like that. Get that looked at before putting new strings on.

If you've been enjoying the Obligatos the Innovation Honey strings are closer to Obligatos than the Super Silvers. The steel wrap gives them a little more definition than the SS strings.

Yeah, I suspect the same. That's usually the case with my acoustic guitars when the windings separate.

Did you actually see a break in the windings (as you mentioned in your original post) or were they just separating? Separating is bad enough and yes, it would be wise to check the nut slots and lubricate them (rub with the business end of a #2 pencil) before installing new strings.

As for different strings, I'm really enjoying the Evah weichs and I think you might as well given the type of music you play and given their punchy and bold sound.

Just my $0.02.

BTW, where in CT are you? PM if you like.

I should have been more precise. The windings are separating ... I don't see a break, per se. I just loosened each one up and lubed the slot with a pencil. The slots didn't look as smooth as I'd expect them. I'll dress 'em lightly before installing new strings. I'm in New Britain, btw.

Sounds like a good plan. Hey, you're not far from me. Maybe you could try out the Evahs, albeit on a different bass.
