On this bass the Oblis are slightly less volume, as well as less growl...what KSB calls buzz saw. They have perhaps a little sweeter arco. I've had no problems that some have reported with them. But I'm told that once removed they don't do as well if reinstalled. |

I also haven't found them to have a particularly short life span as has been reported. I've been using my current pair for 18 months and alot of gigging. On the negative side, I haven't had any success with the Obligato E strings, too sloppy sounding without center. I've tried a couple of them on different basses with the same result. |

They are on my Son's 3/4 Shen 1000 model and he has used it for Jazz as well as Orchestra without any complaints. My Batchelder also has Obligatos on for about 4 years as well and still sound good. I guess it depends on the player, Bass, treatment you give them and what you are looking for in a string that makes them workable or not. |

I find the Obligatos do have a shorter lifespan than say, Spiros or Flexocore, but the flexibility and tone are well worth it.
I was for a few years regularly changing between orchestra and solo gauges, and did have a lot of trouble when reinstalling. The strings want to unwind a bit when reinstalled, and then you get this whooshy kind of sound going on, and they don't speak clearly. I was able to solve this problem by twisting the ball around a few turns before bringing the string into tension, thereby tightening up the wrap.
Works for me!
