Lightbulb Old strings you need to get rid of?

Hey folks,

(Even though I posted this in the DB side, I have had many generous offers for EB strings- I need DB Strings. Sorry for the confusion...)

I work in a large school district in Greenville, SC. Of course we are going through budget shortfalls in this economy and we don't have nearly as much in the supply budget. The last thing, and I mean last thing that gets replaced are bass strings. (Even when they do get replaced they are good old Red Labels.)

I have donated many older sets myself, but as the defacto "bass guy" I get many requests from other teachers in the district. I got an idea from a teacher outside of Atlanta that has ASO players donate old sets of strings for students.

Would any of the TBDB'ers like to donate old sets of strings that you don't use anymore? I don't mean ones you could sell or trade, but the truly old ones. Any D string is better than no D string!

If so, PM me and I will even pay the postage on the set. Guys- I promise I am not running an Ebay business on the side. These are for students. You can look me up, I am a real teacher.

Thanks for reading.

Bump for a really cool idea. If I played DB I'd be all over this.

I think I might still have the old strings that came on my bass - pretty light, not too great sounding, but they'll work. I'll start looking for them.

Spikyone, I will take any strings you have, we don't discriminate.

The response so far has been overwhelming. Thank you guys so much.

Thanks!

Just to report: I received my first set of donated strings from Jallenbass today in the mail!

Thanks so much and we can use all types of DB strings if they are cluttering up your drawer!

Thanks,
BG

Question

I got a school too, see, and I am a teechur also. I only use high-end gut strings with my stoodents. Expensive guts are nicer on their little fingers, especially Gamuts.

Yeah, that's the ticket. PM me for where to send them.

Thumbs up Wow...

Hey guys!

Man the West Coast has represented, especially Washington State!

Thanks Teletubby, Jake, LowEADG, and any others I may have forgotten.

I will be changing some strings on some basses that haven't been changed in 10 years or more and are wearing through!

I thank you and my students thank you.

Sincerely,
BG
