oliv Vs Eudoxa

Hi there,

I know this is a well worn subject, but I hope you don't' mind me searching for a little more specific info.

I've had an Oliv G mixed with a set of spiros on for a 8 months or so and while the set up sounds great live, the recorded sound of the oliv is a little 'thick', for want of a better word.
It tends to stick out and it has a little to much middle thump.
It's almost as though the quality which makes it great through the amp, i.e. not nasal or thin, is the very problem in the studio.

I've had much better results with various Pirastro flexocor strings in the studio as they stick out less and have the same 'shape' of sound as the Spiros. The problem is that the oliv sound so much better through the pickup and live set up.

Would a Eudoxa be a good compromise?
Are they slightly brighter, quicker than the oliv, or have I got the wrong impression.

Many thanks.

eudoxa's are stronger..
brighter? - i don't think so..
quicker?- yes! (except maybe g string).
i love eudoxa's more than oliv's i'd say, but oliv g= a lot easier to play in thumb position compared to eudoxa g..

I've never used a Eudoxa G, but I find the E&A brighter than the Olive E&A. In a group setting, I find it difficult to hear the pitch of the Olive E (pizz) but I don't have that trouble with the Eudoxa E.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Eudoxas have a lower gut content than Olives.
