| Olivs/Eudoxa's for Orchestral Student Hi there, I have a Xue-Chang Sun Model bass currently strung with Belcanto's and I play solely orchestral music, no jazz/slap.
I'm looking for very warm, heavier gauge strings that can give my bass a lot more boom and fundamental.
I've experimented with different strings I found these results:
My bass sounded REALLY good with Dominants, especially on the A and D strings but they were a bit too scratchy while playing off the string. I ADORED their legato arco tone and very very thick pizz sound.
I've also experimented with Pirastro Obligato and I really liked the warmth in sound.
I've also used Original Flexocores and to my hands they felt really good but didn't have that good old gut sound.
I currently use Belcanto's and I feel that they really don't let my bass speak, I don't like their tone for orchestral playing and I find them a bit too low in tension.
I use a Snakewood bow and Oak Rosin. I'm considering investing in an Oliv GD, and Eudoxa AE set, does anyone have any opinions? Also how to take care of these strings in dry dry TORONTO.
My bow arm is quite refined so I don't know how much I'll need to adapt to the qualities of gut. Any opinions/comments would be really helpful.
THX!!
