Question Patrick Strings for Double Bass

Hi!

Who knows anything about these strings and - if so - specifically about the set S2355 ??

Looked at their website, which was the only result I got on google about the strings. They say next to nothing about the strings. I'd be wary of buying them without more info--the site says they're wrapped in Nickel, but are they rope core? solid core? synthetic core? Do they work well for arco, pizz or both? If you're new to this, you might want to check out the web sites of Thomastik and Pirastro to get an idea of the range of options that's out there.

The eBay stuff?
$17 for a set?

You get what you pay for!

If you want the best strings, look at Pirastro and Thomastik.
You pay more, but you get really good strings.

I use them (S2355)on a 1960 Kay Bass and the set that I am now using I have had for about 8 months. I am quite happy with them and have just ordered another set. I play jazz and blues with them.

A bargain worth looking into...?

Old thread, but I got to try these briefly on a friend's bass (old Kay) the other day. I'm genuinely surprised. They felt kind of Spiro Weich-ish; maybe not as bright nor nasally (in a good way), and a nice balance of thumpiness, depth & upper harmonics. Not horribly stiff nor mushy; certainly workable under the fingers of both hands without a sensation of paying for it later. Not sure exactly how long he's had them for but he raves about them. OK, he's not the most advanced nor technical player (nor am I), but they felt good & sounded good, both behind the bass as well as in the audience (although he was playing softly).

Honestly couldn't say what their longevity is like, but for the coin (~$45-50AUD incl. postage) if they last 6-9 mths, they'd seem to be great value and if double that, exceptional. I'll probably get a set to try first hand for longer, which may show up some of their limitations; maybe they'll be great, maybe just a good back up set. We'll see, but my initial reaction was that I'd happily gig on them, and not necessarily only if I had to.
