Pirastro Flat Chromesteel with Permanent E (and A)

I've been reading some threads on Pirastro Permanents and Flat Chromesteel (which are the strings I use now). I have had them on my bass for around 2 years and I think its time for a new set. After reading about other strings (brands etc) I think I want to stay with the FCS for at least the G and D strings, but

- who matches the Permanent E with FCS G,D,A? (I have heard this is a popular combination)
- does anyone match the Permanent E and A with FCS G and D?

I have never been *unhappy* with the sound of my low FCS E bowed, but it could sound a little better, hence my wanting to try the Permanent E.

About my bass-playing: I play about 60% arco (limited to practise only though) and 40% pizz (includes practice and playing in bands etc). I have a no-name Chinese bass (hybrid, I believe).

Also, how long have those of you who use either type of string left them on your bass? I have noticed a drop in sound quality in the last months, but this could be the weather or any other number of factors too (like I said, I play a pretty entry-level Chinese bass).

Cheers,

Markus

If you want better bowable string go Flexocor 92`s either the normal or the stark.

Like you I played FCS before but soundwise I found them to metallic. After trying lots of others I made the final switch to the normal flexocors and I LOVE them.

They sound superb bow wise and on my bass really good pizz.
Less growl maybe but lots of fundamental

I had the FCS on there for about 3 years btw.

FCS Strings

I'm using them now on my bass, but I'm ready for a different sound.

Thinking of trying Dominants. I tried a bass with them and they really blew me away. The sound and the feel.
