Hi, and welcome on Talkbass.
I suggest you browse the forum a bit.
The Newbie links sticky at the forum top is full of useful links.
These strings are not a novelty, and are regularly discussed here.
The search engine is very powerful.
You can get these strings from many on-line resellers, like Lemur Music, Quinn Violins, Bob's House of Basses, Concord Musical Supplies, JustStrings, etc....
Your choice, depends where you are, which is not indicated in your profile.

Best regards,
François

Hi Francois-

Thanx for your quick reply. I found it in a good price at Lemur's shop. I hope they're ok.
Can I ask you a proffessional question about the best strings for orchestral playing?
My dilema is between the "flexocor medium" and the "original flexocor medium".
I'm ussualy a lonely bass in my orchestra, confronting 10 cellos, crazy brass players, "animal" kind of timpany player, and all the others, of course. So I need a storng sound, but still I want it to be warm as well.
Thanks for your time

The original flexocor has kind of become a standard orchestral string. Very dark and powerful but you'll need to work a little more to get them to speak really well. OF strings can be found on basses of Eugene Levinson, Harold Robinson and Orin O'brien to name a few.

Recently Thomastik's Belcanto has been all the rage and I've only heard good things about them. I don't have the money for a set so I can't say but I'm eager to try some.

Cool Orig to Reg..

The Orig Flex is a bit more aggressive sounding than the regular Flex (92s), BUT the gauge/thickness of the OF is bigger than the Stark/thick Flex so this is apples and oranges. If you cpompare Orig flex to STARK Flex then we have a simialr gauged string. The Stark is a smoother darker string all around. Still the A on the OF is still way thicker. For a lighter gauge smooth set with a 'balanced E, try reg Flex with the Stark E. It seems the E in the reg (92s) set is about one gauge lighter in feel than the rest of the set. Pirastro just wont listen to feed back and make the string bigger (.102" would be better from .097").

Even with the OF, some players use a Helicore E for a stronger attack as they do with reg Flex. I think the Stake E fixes the problem with the reg 92 set. OF only comes in the one orchestra gauge.

Hi Ken-

wow! you gave me a great addvise. I'm now on the net to order it. I hope I'll recive the set before my concert (We play Brahms- so I need the darkest of sounds).

Thanx

Ken brings up a good point that I forgot to mention. The E string in the OF set is about the thickness of a tree trunk and just as friendly to the bow. Many players use a helicore or permenant.
