i know it sounds strange.... but he told me he uses them so !

i really like the e a d g slap, but for the jazz songs @ school the thick e and a really suck !

or do i just have to get "used to it" ?

By the way.... how often do i have to oil and sand the strings ?

Plain gut E & A are pretty much as you describe...floppy with not much definition. For jazz, you will probably want to switch them out for steels, like Charlie Haden. Wrapped gut E & A is an option, but really pricey.

There are synthetic slap strings out there, like SuperSilvers, that'll give you better definition on the low end for jazz as well.

I used to lightly oil mine about every 2 mos. Just clip the 'hairs' if you see any. No need to sand all the time.
