| | | | Please Help I bought my 3/4 upright with certain strings, love the sound, want a new set, but can't identify them. Previous owner was no help.
They are loose tension and large diameter -- perhaps twice the thickness of Spirocore. All four strings have identical construction -- white-thread core (nylon or silk, no metal) wound with silver-colored metal.
The brand must be common enough, but I can't find it. Can anyone please help?

| | | | White/gray felt. Do Supernil have a nylon-wound E and A? With this type, all four strings are metal-wound. |

Maybe Innovations or Rotosounds.

| | | | Dissected the D string. The white-thread core has four layers of flat metal winding, the widest maybe 1/32 wide. All four strings are metal-wound. |

| | | | At tailpiece, all four strings have blue wrap.
At headstock, wrap is:
E-Yellow
A-Blue (same as tailpiece color)
D-Gray
G-Green |

I played a bass with Innovation 140B strings on it recently and if I remember correctly the silk at the tailpiece end was primarily blue, though I think there was another color as well. Anyway, since their strings are synthetic core it would make sense given your description. |

| | | You guys are good. The link below shows the silk coloring for the Sensicore. The headstock end is a match. Should I be worried about the non-match on the tailpiece end? Mine are all solid blue. Also, can you confirm that the strings have a larger diameter (perhaps twice the thickness of Thomastiks)? http://www.supersensitive.com/html/content/main_faq.htm

I used Quinn Violins String ID applet to find your strings, and the ID applet uses the old color coding for the Sensicores.
Back then, they were very thick too.
The new Sensicores have a different tailpiece silk color and are much thinner; like Obligatos for instance.
If the strings you have really are Sensicores, then a set you'll buy today will be completely different.

| | | | Given the change, any recommendations for replacement? I prefer the looser tension and warmer sound, but don't want to lose note definition in the low register. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
