| Please Help With String ID I recently acquired a 1940 Kay 0-100 bass with steel strings on it. Can anyone help me with ID? I thought the previous owner said Corellis but I'm not finding any information to verify this. The Quinn Violin string ID resource didn't help.
The tailpiece end of the strings have about 5 inches of yellow-gold winding "underlayment" with about a 2.5 inch centered overlay section of brick red winding that has yellow-gold spiral showing through. The pegbox ends are: E - dark green, A - charcoal-black, D - yellow-gold, & G - brick red. The strings are very smooth & silky feeling. Gauges seem similar to Spirocore Weichs but I didn't really measure them. Tailpiece barrels are yellow/gold and shaped like a bass drum (not long barrels like Spirocores). They came with felt-like discs next to the barrels. Thanks for the help.
