A powerful arco E string for Shen 3/4 SB200-Willow?

Hi,

I'm looking for responses from those who own and play this particular instrument...

Has anyone found an E string with decent arco volume, power, and depth on their Shen 3/4 SB200/Willow?

I've tried Flex 92's, Permanents, Helicore Medium Orch, Superflexibles, and now have Belcantos.

For the E string, the Superflex was the best but not great.

I like the Belcantos, except for that wimpy sounding E.

(Hey, maybe it's the setup! Reminds me of the old Steve Martin standup routine...)

Thanks,
Jim

Try an Evah Pirazzi. If that doesn't do it, you better see a luthier.

I have an SB200-Willow. I used Evah Pirazzi Regulars for a while. THey were the hugest sounding strings I tried.

A Spirocore Mittel 'E' makes a remarkably good match with Belcanto 'A', 'D' and 'G'.

And yeah, the setup can make a big difference.

Thomastik Spirocore Stark-E 4/4 size is the way to go for a big thump, deep fundamental, great sustain, clear and accurate pitch. There's a whole thread on here somewhere.

The only problem with the Stark E is it takes some work to get moving arco. I loved that thing pizz but arco was the reason I switched.

To better match, what are you using for A, D & G?

Hi,

First of all, thanks to all of you for the responses!

iiiPopes, I have the Belcantos on right now for G,D,A - and am liking them. One very positive quality of these is very fast bow response & quick starting.

Based on Eric & Fingers advice, I think trying an Evah E might be the next step.

Jake, thanks for the Spiro Mittel tip - with those, assuming I'd would have the bowing response issue, don't know if I want to sign up to drive that truck again. My bowing has improved some over the years, but...

Thanks Again,
Jim

I have an SB200 and use a Permanent E which is plenty loud and keeps up just fine with the Evah Weich A/D/G.
