Presto Balance for arco?

These are relatively new strings. We've bantered a little bit about Presto being Eurosonic, but I think presto is now distinctly a different string that euros ever were.

Herve' Jeanne's string sound samples page include Presto Hybrids, and I must say their arco sound is the best on his page: http://www.hervejeanne.de/saitenmatrix.php

I'm 99% arco and have a bright 2003 Romanian carved bass. I'm after a dark gut-like arco sound (aren't we all). Currently I'm using the popular flex/spiro top/bottom combo.

Does anybody have any recent experience with Presto Balance strings? See also: http://www.presto-strings.com/balance.html

I've played (pizz only) the Orchestal Balances in both medium and light gauges, and I found them relatively bright. (or at least clear sounding)
I found them similar to T-I Superflexibles.

So it you're looking for a dark tone, I'd look somewhere else.
Did you try Bel Cantos?

Hi Francois, yes I tried a prototype BC G/D/A on my bass (borrowed from my luthier), I'm keeping the spiro mittle long-E. These BC prototypes had black silks on the bottom. They sure bowed nice, but the G string pooped out in the upper register. At least the flexo/92 G string takes almost as much as I can give it -- almost.
