Projection

I recently buyed a carved double bass. An Italian From Bulgary or something like that. It is supposed to be a 100 years old bass (A luthier said to me that it might me a copy but it is another story).

I have Anima strings on it. I recently played accoustic with a piano. I could barely ear myself. I have a pretty good right and left hand technique.

Would spirocore or jazzers project more that the anima?

Not in my experience, but it's different with every bass. Animas are probably the loudest strings I've ever used. Maybe your new bass needs a setup?

As an aside, I've found Pirastro Evah Pirazzis to be nearly as loud on my bass, but with better arco characteristics.

Another thing to consider is that your perception of your bass' acoustic sound is not always accurate. Sometime the sound is happening out in the room, even though it may seem quiet to you. Try playing it at your home facing a corner, or have someone play it and give it a listen.

PS...we love pictures of new bass purchases.

Well, she's a beauty.

How long have the Animas been on it? Maybe she needs time to adjust to them or maybe you do. They require some different techique in my experience.

I have the anima's since a month or two. They had time to settle.
Very rich sound. I had to change a bit the attack of the right hand finger.
