Purple Gut G

Today I was in the shop in my continuing quest to get my bass sounding right and I had the opportunity to play Wilbert De Joode's 1/2 size Lott bass. It's really a little powerhouse, quite fine indeed. Interestingly enough he had a purple plain gut G string. Anyone ever come across one of those. I think it could be a Lenzer. Any thoughts?

You know, harpists use colored gut strings and it's possible it's a harp string in an appropriate gauge for a bass string. Just a thought.

I'll bet you could get an email address for Wilbert and just ask him.

I just talked to him today. It's an F harp string tuned to the G. IIRC, he said it was made by pirastro....
And yes that bass, and the way he plays it, is SO insane(ly great)!
