Smile Q: What String Size For 7/8 Bass

Hi all!
First post here, so apologies if I do something wrong/cover a previous answered question.
I am a newbie on upright bass and want to upgrade my strings. I currently have a fairly cheap laminate bass (which I intend to upgrade as my technique improves), fitted with the factory standard strings. I also have a Shadow SH950 pickup attached for live use.
Whilst I appreciate the tonal quality of the bass is and always will be poor, I would like to buy some good quality strings to improve the tone a little, with a view to transferring the strings over to my new bass (when that beautiful day arrives).
Having read the great threads on here so far, I find myself drawn to the Pirastro Evah Weichs. I would like to achieve a thumpy dark mellow sound on pizz, but I would like the chance to play some arco also (say 20%), mainly in the lower ranges. I am aiming to play jazz and folk. I've just fallen in love with Roy Browns sound on his masterclass video. Also love Jon Thornes sound.
Anyhow, to my main question: The bass states it is a 3/4 size, but on measuring the bridge-nut, it measures 107.5cm, which is 7/8. So should I buy strings for a 3/4 (105cm) or a 4/4 (110cm) bass? Also any advise/opinions on the choice of string is welcomed. I should also mention I am fortunate enough to have large strong hands, so should be able to handle thicker gauges if necessary.
Many thanks

Both lenghts should be okay.
A 4/4 set will produce less tension on a 7/8 scale, and the reverse for a 3/4 set, but the difference is quite marginal.
What don't you like in the Weichs evahs?
They would seem to fit the bill to me.

Since how long are you playing upright?
It may just be a matter of technique.

Hi Francois
Thanks very much for answering that for me. I wouldn't have considered the tension factor. I have only been playing for 3 months (with a 10 year background in guitar). I understand that technique is far more important than any equipment, but I do have a little spare money and thought this would be the best way to spend it.
Do you know if lower tension is better for arco or worse. I'm guessing that higher tension will be louder and possibly more punchy....
Thanks again!

p.s. There isn't anything I dislike about them as I have never tried them.

Hi.
The sound comes at lot from the hands.
Ray Brown would have sounded like Ray Brown on any bass with any string.
Give yourself some time to play, and think about gear later.

I suppose it's mainly a matter of personal preference!
François Rabbath and Gary Karr are playing on low tension Corellis strings.
Others will use heavy strings like Original Flexocors.
There's no rule.
