re: Magnetic pickups & Strings

Hey Guys.
I am using a String Charger magnetic pickup on my '59 Kay,
I am using Correlli's at the moment, But I do not love the sound.(a little scratchy for Arco, ok but not great for pizz.
Any suggestions.
Thanks
Stu

Do you want a better arco string, or better pizz string?

I'm not sure of the result of using synthetic core strings with a magnetic pickup, like Obligatos or Evah Pirazzis.
It's usually recommended to use strings with a high ferrous or nickel content with a mag pup.

"Hybrid" strings (meant to perform good at both arco and pizz duties) are a compromise on both jobs...

Well when you bow the vibrations are focused on an axis quite far from perpendicular to the magnetic poles so mag pickups wont create a strong signal with arco.

The more ferrous content, the merrier when it comes to mag pickups and strings.
