Regulating the environment of your bass

On a previous thread about gut strings, someone mentioned that it's good to detune guts strings when not playing them and try and keep the bass in a good climate...

I'm just curious, aside from obvious things (like not leaving the bass in the garage), what exactly can be done to help? I live in Bloomington, Indiana and the humidity changes a lot. I can deal with the bass itself changing, but I'm using Eudoxa strings, which are pretty tempermental.

Any suggestions?

Have you looked at this thread?

How badly can an upright be damaged by humidity in the air?
