| Shouldn't La Bella plain gut A be noticably larger than D? My Eastman bass is currently strung with La Bella plain gut on G/D and Spirocore Mittels on A/E. I just received a La Bella plain gut A from Lemur. The Envelope is factory stamped "A 77," and has a Lemur sticker that says "S1554P, La Bella plain gut A, A77 Warning! very low tension."
Problem is, I think what shipped in this envelope is a D string, not an A.
The string appears to be exactly the same diameter as the La Bella plain gut D already on my bass. This didn't seem right to me, so I called Lemur, and they sent a replacement. It arrived in a similarly labeled package, and is the same suspicious diameter as the first.
Shouldn't the difference in diameter between a La Bella plain gut D (.107 according to the TalkBass Wiki) and a plain gut A (.114) be obvious to the naked eye? Or are calipers necessary to detect a .007 difference?
The Wiki gives the diameters of the full La Bella set as: .086 .107 .114 .135
