so how often do you do it?
changing the strings of your baby, I mean ...
how long is the life span of a healthy G-String?

I try to do "It" every day. My wife is pretty good about it.

Until they don't sound good anymore?
I'm also interested in the pro opinions on this... On year eleven of my current double bass set.

i probably do it about every 1-2 months, depending on how much i play. about the time i start fiddling with eq, i realize i need to change em'. would do it more often, but time and money prevents this.

We're talking DB strings here.

The spiro weichs I'm playing came on a bass I bought last year, so I'm not sure how old they are. I've been playing these strings for a year of heavy playing, and I sweat even before I get to the gig, just until now this set sounds dark but still growly, beautiful indeed (even the G string). I just ordered a new set only as a backup. I'm tempted about putting the new ones on and keeping the old ones as backups.

so: still nothing consistent ...
the sticky refers to the hanging basses; i suppose ...
come on boys/girls: this is an invitation to lower your panties and share some intimate details about your health practices with the rest of us.
good sound is a subjective thing, of course; but that is not a reason to keep it secret.

When my moods change and I want a different sound. Usually about 6-12 months. The strings are still in good condition and I keep them around to they can be used again once the mood strikes me.
I don't think I've ever worn out a string, cept maybe breaking them by taking them on and off. There's more spoilage than there is out of old age.

When I'm after a different sound or feel, or just when I think I should be getting more out of bass in some way...or when the weather is crummy outside and I need something to do

I put on a set of Sonores in April-I intend to get the full two years out of them.
