Solo strings for jazz?

Hi all. I have solo strings on my jazz bass right now because i don't want to spend all that money on a new set of strings. Are the solo gauges ok for jazz?

I think that's a pretty broad question, but the quick answer is: if they sound good, and are pizz-able, then yeah. There are probably other choices that are better, and trying them out involves spending some money, because any given string will sound different on a variety of basses. We've all been trying to find a way around that issue for years.

I'm on my 3rd set of Thomastik Solos in a row now. They get you a lighter, smoother sound than heavier strings, particularly if you dig in too hard, but I like them.
