The set I purchased before this had similar problems. The strings seem uneven, unclear and dead.

| | | | Yea. Leave them on for a couple days and they usually turn out fine. If not send them back for fresh ones. |

Never had string brighten up on the bass, only deaden.
Where did you get them? Were they newish or have they been sitting around for a long time?
I was given a spiro mittel E once that was never used, but had been sitting around for many years. It wasnt as bright as I was expecting. |

Toad, thanks for the advice, I'll try that.
Jazzman, that has been my experience too. Usually my Spiro's sound super bright when first installed. They are brand new, just purchased... |

FWIW, I had a dead new Spiro E last year.
It sounded like a Belcanto E....
I got a replacement from Connelly, but that's strange...

I have a Shen SB 100 in my office with spiro mitts (and a stark E, I must admit) on it right now, and it's *killing*. The beautiful thing about the mittel gauge is that you can find the tension sweet spot pretty easily: on the lowish side works if you like that vibe, medium height gives you some more pop on the front of the note, and you can also jack them up for a direct punch in the face/gut Drew Gress type thing (my favorite at the moment). |

I'm kind of in an experimenting mood because I just got a Barbera transducer. It's a pretty amazing device, but I'd like to see how it responds to a dryer sounding string. |
