Spirocore Mittels vs. Corelli TX

On my 4/4 (43,3 inches string length) bass, I currently have Thomastik Spirocore Mittels. I like everything about them, except that on my bass, I feel that they're a little stiff and heavy to play. I've got some problems with my hands (tendons?), and it can get really bad when I really dig in. I was wondering if the Corelli TX would mean a string that's easier to play, have lower tension, and still have a decent amount of volume. I've considered the Corelli Forte also, but I'm a little afraid that those would be too thin.

I found the Spiro Mittels too tense for me on my Cleveland as well, so I switched to Spiro Weiches- Perfect!

The Weiches sounded better, were easier to play and only a bit less loud (i've still got the mittel E on, but the Weich E is fine too).

If you like the Spiro sound then go to Weich, otherwise you might be stepping on the string rollercoaster of doom.

Thanks! I've actually thought about the weichs too. Do you know if there's any significant difference between the Corelli TX and the Weichs? Are the Corellis even easier to play? I don't think I will step on the string rollercoaster more than trying these too, maybe just on of them.

hgrind: Try the Weichs first.
The Corelli 370's may be too thin in diameter and sound for you. If you want to try Corelli's....try the 380 Extra Forte TX. They are more like the Weichs in diameter, feel and sound.
In my experience.

If you're coming from mittels, I would definitely try the weichs and not the Corellis. I've never had success with Corellis--yes, they're easy to play and easy to bow on, but the 370s put out about a third of the acoustic volume of Spiro weichs on my basses. And weichs are not the most robust of strings, projection-wise, in the first place, so that's saying a lot.

I haven't tried the 380s (the "normal" Corellis); I could suggest Thomastik Superflexibles or D'Addario (Hybrid or Pizzicato, medium or light gauge) as possible solutions for stepping down a bit in stiffness from Spirocore mittels.

Corelli 380

I used the D and G 380TX for awhile with Weich E and A. The 380s are very nice bowing strings and sounded good with the Weichs for jazz pizz. The 380 E string was not usable on my bass, weak sound. They are worth a try if you don't like the arco qualities of weichs.

I tried both on the same bass (not mine, a hybrid belonging to a student). As mentioned earlier, there was just a LOT more volume out of the Weichs than from the Corellis. YMMV.
