spirocore nasal sound

i love the spirocore sound and feel on my bass (NS cleveland laminated) with the exception of the nasal sound primarily on the G string at the octave. has anyone experienced this and is there another string that will give me a similar sound and feel without this nasal sound. thanks.

Try raising the action - this worked wonders on the awful sound I got out of my Kay when I first put on spirocores (orchestral gauge, standard length - not the 3/4 length set). The Kay sound was growling and nasal and generally not pretty until I got the action considerably higher than it had been w/the hybrid helicores I had been using. Also, the spirocores will lose some of that edge as they get played in. But, the spirocores have the volume and clarity I like so I put up with the other stuff.

Yeah, on one of my basses, a carved roundback German, the Spiro G is a bit whinny. It will get better as you play it in and the Orch. gage is a bit better in this regard than the Weich gage. On this bass I use Spiro Weich D and A, a Spiro Orch. E (I like its robust lows) and for the G, I usually use a Pirastro Flexocore 92 (the purplish-red colored ends). Deffinately less nasal than a Spiro G and smoother w/ the bow.
