Spirocore without the "boing"?

I just got a brand new bass...it sounds incredible, and my last bass was a Shen Willow...this bass is much bigger sounding, with tons of low end and growl. It's a brand new model that Shen is making, the SB190. LARGE body, with a 41 3/4 mensur. It has new Spirocores, but I gotta tell you....amplified, the "boing" of the new Spiros is driving me nuts! What strings have you guys used that sound like a nicely broken in set of Spirocores right out of the box? I love the way Spiros sound after a few months, and their longevity is almost unparalleled...

...any "post-sproing" recommendations?

Play a lot and break them in. A couple months goes by quick and then you're gold for years.

i got a mittel set used that i traded from the classifieds...easier for me.
the d strings is still a little hot but it's been a year or more now, for the most part they sounded good the moment i put them on.
i played my bass the other night and had played some earlier in the day. man the bass sounded so nice.

That's quite the coincidence...the bass I was playing was a Shen SB 200...that's what I traded for a Shen SB 190...WHAT A BASS!!! BIG sound, very growly, and it's a cannon.

UncleToad...I went to grad school at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio back in 92-94...I actually bought a Trace Elliot upright bass combo from....you, maybe? Or German Music Haus? One or the other...used that thing for years!

I have always used Spirocores, but it's been a few years since I had new ones...boy, they're lively! I'll just keep on growlin' down the zing 'till they're nice and warm.

new ones are a pain in the ass.

Prolly bought that from German Village. I was at Cowtown guitars in 92/94. Started Fretshop in 1998.
