After three days of playing the Starks, I decided that even though they made my bass sound louder than I've ever heard it... I'm no Chris Fitzgerald. Off they went, but not before my little nephew gave them a try. He agreed; great sound, fingers don't work so well ;-)
I started to put on the 370TXs I got from a TBer one string at a time. The E was such a disappointment- and the A wasn't all that much better- that I almost put the Stark back on... but I thought, in for a penny, in for a pound, you know? So I went ahead and put the entire set on. And once I did, surprise- they sound much better. Once the tension of the Starks was removed, the 370TXs were a lot more responsive.
The Corelli E is nothing like the Stark E, of course, but it's not too bad. And these strings bow like a dream, even in thumb position. And yet they still have really good sustain. I'm going to keep them on for a while, I think.

I'm assuming that when you guys write about "starks" you mean spirocore starks. Pirastro has starks too. |

A isn't bad, and D and G really sing. I have a used set of Spiro orchestras coming that I'm going to try next. Of course, what I *really* need is a new bass.... ;-) |

for me, helicores have really good bow response as I love to practice with the bow when practicing left hand technique. |
