| string advice I love both Aminas and Garbos except for the G string on both. I had same problems as you but I found the Anima A and D to bow nicely, almost like period music sound; more gutlike, less metallic, also less cello like but I like that gutlike sound.
I kept Anima A and D and put Spiro E and Oliv G. I like the way the Oliv G and Anima A and D sounded together. I play both jazz, classical, old western swing and with a slightly higher action I really like this combination. When I'm playing strictly classical however I have my carved bass set up with a mix of Jargar Forte E, A, D, Original Flexocore G. Because I have three basses I have that option. If you have one bass and have to split the difference try the Oliv G and Spiro E and see how you like them.
On my third bass which is a Hybrid I have Evah's which are more gutlike in feel (I think synthetic core) but bow beautifully and have really good pizz sound with more sustain and volume than most pure classical strings. This might be another option if you choose to forego the Animas completely, but like I said I'm an Anima fan except for the Gs. Hope this helps. |
