| A String advice (classical)? I now have Bel Cantos on G and D, and like them -- I used to have Flexocor 92s on G and D, and Permanents on A and my long C. It was a B+ combination, but I'm looking for an "A," in two senses.
The Permanent A that worked well with the Flexocors sounded scratchy and was hard to start with the Bel Cantos on. (I also have a Permanent long C as the fourth string, as before -- that still works beautifully.)
I've since switched from Permanent to Bel Canto on A, and it's not working -- the Bel Canto A is very bowable (a dream, really), but the volume and projection vanishes in the middle orchestra positions -- the string is just too damned anemic on my bass. Flexocor 92s and Original Flexocors are likewise anemic for the A string on my bass.
Any suggestions for an orchestra A string that is both easily bowable and projects well at a high volume?
I'm SO close to the string setup I want...
