Hi,
I'm fairly new at this double bass thing, basically I've only been fiddling with it from time to time. Have had 2 years of technique lessons while studying bassguitar at the Rotterdam Conservatory, so I have an idea of 'how it's supposed to be done'.

Been looking around at ways to make my bass sound better, and I figured the best thing to do was replace the strings it has (the E is simply aweful; probably also my lack of skill but it's about half the volume of the other strings).
In my search I found a nice link on a dutch luthier's site ( Rogier Dieges from Rotterdam )
http://www.hervejeanne.de/saitenmatrix.php
I'll most probably be taking the bass over to his shop sometime this month and ask him for some more tips and tricks. I don't know an aweful lot about the bass itself, other than it's not an expensive instrument ;-) the setup is alright though, plays pretty comfortably even for my weak bassguitarist-hands lol.
Rogier actually fixed a crack in the top already, and put the sound post back (
which for some reason was being used as end-pin
when I got the bass, maybe already for 10 years that poor thing was setup without a sound post, without an aweful lot of damage though) in place but I didn't bother having him do more work on it yet since I have no clue how much it's actually potentially worth as a gigging instrument.
Long story short; thanks for these forums, always proving to be a great resource, and wanted to share the link.
Not sure if it's already been posted here somewhere, but I think it won't hurt to post it again.
