string experimentation help

Hey guys,

I'm hardly ever on the string side of TB, but i wanted to see if some of you guys could give me some guidance on this. I was auditioning the bass i eventually bought and almost didn't buy it because i didn't like the sound that the obligatos gave it. sounded dead (not sure how long the strings were on the bass). i asked for spirocores and fell in love with the bass.

However, in a perfect world, i would like to have a darker tone to my G and D. I love the sound my spirocores get on the lower two strings, but (i don't know if the rest of you guys are at a consensus about this) but the G and D spirocores are a little bright for my taste. I've had them in for about a month now and just am curious about what other string types i could use in place of the spirocore G and Ds. my teacher uses gut strings and i've heard that they're great. but what would i have to do to get a darker sound with the same responsiveness and growl of the spirocore.

i play mostly pizz jazz.

thanks. hope i made sense and i'm not delusional

Thomastik Superflexibles are somewhat darker than the Spiros, but have a similar punch and growl, so maybe that's an alternative for you.
