I just bought another bass on a whim. I'm looking to change out the strings, but I'm not sure what the E-D strings are. For all three the tailpiece silks are black (or very dark blue/purple). At the peg box the E is solid black, and it looks like the fat part of the A and D are black, but the ends are light blue/cyan for the A and red for the D.

What is stamped on the balls?
They look like Pirastro Ultra-Sensitive strings, which were discontinued a long time ago!

They all have a zero on one side and 4, 3, and 2 (E, A, D) on the other.

In fact, it's an "O", and means orchestra-tuning. (solos would get a "S" as you guessed)

However, Ultra-Sensitives silks were black for orchestra-tuning and bright blue for the solos.
Furthermore, at the peg-end, Pirastro's tone ID is:
E: green
A: black
D: red
G: brown
The string on the usual A peg has some green, and the E seems black.
I'm puzzled!

I searched for black/black on Quinn Violins' string search and Thomastik Precision was the result. I heard that Precisions have higher tension than Spiros, but these strings feel pretty loose to me.

Thomastik don't use the same balls shape.
Furthermore they don't use different colors at the peg ends.
Definitely not T-Is.
