String suggestion for long string length

Thanks in advance for any responses to this. I have a 44 inch string length and am looking for a string that works well at that length (if there is a difference from 42). I have eyed the Velvet 180s but am very concerned about the reports of that string breaking. I have a colleague with a set and they sound and play wonderfully. I also have played and liked the flat chromesteel Pirastro. It appears Dominants get a lot of positive run here, I haven't ever played them. The Belcanto look interesting. For reference, I'm finishing off my 3rd set of Obligato orchestra which have served me well, but I'm wanting something a bit louder and quicker response.

Hi Prescott, and welcome on Talkbass.
I suggest that you first take a few minutes and fill out your profile:

That said, the Dominants are made for 3/4 size bass only, and would be too short for your instrument, unless the tailpiece is near the bridge. Furthermore, they'd be strung at higher tension, due to the increased scale, and this would make them even more prone to breakage and reduce their lifespan.
The Jargars are very long and would fit your bass very well, but the tone may not be what you want. They are very gut-like; dark tone, short thump.
What about Corellis?
I'm less sure about their lenght though.

Best regards,
François
