String suggestions?

I've recently transferred from electric to upright bass (I've been playing upright for a year now). I know nothing at all about the string market for upright bass, the strings I had put on mine when I purchased it were recommended by the Professor of string bass at my University and I don't even remember the brand. Anyways, I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations on different kinds of strings. I play both arco and pizzicato equally, so a string thats good for both would be best I guess. Thanks!

My personal go-to, all-purpose, do-everything string of choice is the Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Weich set.

Arco or pizz.? If jazz pizz., for example, then the "standard" is Thomastik Spirocore mittels-- called Spiro mitts around these parts.

Thomastik Belcantos. I think that they are a wonderful hybrid string.

Doh! Sorry to you and the OP. I didn't read carefully. Of course, some would claim that Spiros have a bad arco rap and are just fine. FWIW, if I were going 50/50, I would, indeed, look to the Evah weichs.

Perhaps a huge interaction with the particular basses, but in my experience, Belcantos were just dogs for pizz.
