Question strings

Hi,
I think it is time i changed the strings on my db.
When i bought it I didn't know what was on then. They look like nylon wound for the g and d and chrome? for the a and e.

I play mainly with the fingers, but do like to use the bow now and again. Also some recording..

There are so many types of string on the market i need to do some research. Not lookjing for cheap but don't want to buy top of the range without good reason.

I use a audio technica condenser mike which I put through the pa but will at some point be buying a combo, probably a GK .

thanks for advice

Hi.

First, please describe the silk colors at both the tailpiece and pegbox so we can find what you already have.

Second, why do you want to change them?
You don't like the tone?
If you like it, and we find what you have, you can buy another set.
If you don't like the tone, what are you looking for?
More sustain, more brightness, darker tone, less sustain?

Since this is so subjective we need more input to give advices, and first need to know what you already have.

Best regards,
François

Sounds a lot like LaBella Supernils to me.

Anyway, for $90, you can't beat Thomastik Superflexibles. It's a very stiff steel string despite the name, but they bow like a champ and I feel like the extra stiffness has helped to actually make me a better bassist, especially when I play swing-style slap.

strings

i listened to the string comparison matrix site posted by timo.
I liked the sound of the pirastro obligato strings. They seemed to have a more depth? warmth? to my ear. Anyway, I ordered a set fromm Upton bass which advertises on this site. When they arrive I will let you know what I think.

I wanted a change because the present set seem lifeless and the E looks like it is breaking! between the bridge and tailpiece.
In answer to francois about colour at the ends, the g and d are bronze? the e and a are silver at the peg box. All green at the other end. Is this what i should be looking at? Thanks all

Well, let me be the first to say it. Welcome to the wonderful and expensive world of DB strings. Any string you put on you'll love for about six months and then start searching for something else.
