Strings

Hi.

I've been using Thomastic red-wraps for many years. I do love them... however, I'm way out of touch with all the new strings that have come along over the last ten years, thinking that nobody could make a better string for jazz.

Anybody have any suggestions on any of the new jazz stings for doublebass? I'm about to order a new set for my '73 Pollmann Busetto, as well as new pickup system. (I currently use an old Underwood pickup.) Any thoughts?

Thanks, all.

Hi Kim,

I went to your web site and listened to what you're doing, and I have to say that for that kind of music, it's hard to beat your current strings (Spirocores). If you're really tired of them and must try something else, then maybe you'd like Dominants, also from Thomastik. Or Jazzers from Pirastro. Or maybe Obligatos. But Spiros are fine.

I could be wrong here, but most of the recent strings are darker/thumpier than Spirocores, and based on what I heard, I'm not sure that you would like them.

Timo

Thanks, Timo. The red-wraps have always been my favs. I've tried, briefly, other strings (years ago) and had been completely disappointed with them.

Thanks again, for your reply.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Hard to beat those spiros. I go back to them over and over again.

If you are bored buy some used stuff off the forum and try it, hate it, and sell it off again secure in the knowledge you don't have the same string disease everyone else does.

Ah, um, forgot that part of the question.

The Full Circle seems to be standard these days. Maybe you should try it? The Amps & Pickups forum is overflowing with various comments about it.
