Are strings ever sold as singles?

Hi folks,
I've read a lot about people mixing sets (steel E,A gut/synth D,G) for pizz. Do string companies sell strings as singles (I know they do for guitar, for example)? Or are folks buying two sets of strings everytime they do this?
Thanks.

Sure...most retailers (Lemur, Quinn, etc.) sell strings individually.

The Soundpost and Heinl's in Toronto both sell singles...

Most places do, s'not a problem.
