what Damon said. I had a set of weichs on my bass and just changed them to mittels. Slight increase in volume, not huge. Significant difference in feel.

The Mittles are stiffer, which in some ways is easier and in some ways is harder. I liked the Weichs because they had a little more "bounce" and felt less like steel cables. They're thinner and yes, easier to start with the bow and easier to press down. The Mittels, as a couple people in the "sound vs tactile" thread pointed out, are quicker responding and more precise. Solos are easier on the weichs, fast walking lines are easier on the Mittles--at least on my bass

I have Mittels on my Kay, and am happy with them for pizz, which is all I do on the gig. Recently I switched to doing most of my practicing with the bow, just because I got my kids started on strings, and it got me interested in the bow again. I'd like to work up to the point where I can play bowed solos and heads.

So I have been living with the bowed sound of the Mittels. Changing to Pop's rosin, which I did yesterday, helped a lot, though this may be a seasonal thing because I keep my house pretty cold. I would appreciate any other tips on what to concentrate on in improving my bowing technique with these strings.

I don't know if I do any more, I use to really like zing and used spiros for years, the harmonics and sustain are the bomb with spiros but the last few years I've been going darker and tumpier.
