Tiplop Double Bass Strings

Does anyone know whether Tiplop double bass gut strings are any good. They are inexpensive enough for me. I have small hands and need "soft" strings for my double bass. PS: I am not a pro, just a guy that loves the sound of D Bass.

I've noticed them on ebay but have never tried them or come across anyone who has.
They are cheap and probably worth a try but from experience, you generally get what you pay for with hand made gut strings. Possibly the G may work. Let us know if you try them

I know people who bought them, and they weren't pleased. You'll probably have to sand them carefully to bring them into round and oil them to make them more supple, but being beef gut they probably won't play or sound like sheep gut.

If I wasn't the son of a biochemist and a neuroscientist, I'd be disturbed that I know so much about entrails.

I have a set coming in the mail - I'll be sure to let everyone know what I think (even though I'm a n00b)

For some reason, the name of these strings and the thought of "beef gut" made me throw up a little.

My Tiplop guts arrived Friday evening via registered mail (which means they are still at the Post Office and I haven't been able to pick them up yet).

My plan is to go the Post Office on Monday and then go straight to KC Strings and have them installed. I'm going to have the luthier use his calipers to make sure the guts are the diameters listed in the auction. I'm also going to get his opinion, as well as an upright bass player at the shop, as to their quality. I'll be sure to share all of this here in the forum.

If these blow I'll get a refund and then just save up for a nice set of Lenzner guts or something

BTW has anyone noticed that the stock pic of the gut set on the Tiplop site looks almost EXACTLY like the one on the Upton site?

I too bought a set of G and D strings off eBay. I just got mine and haven't put them on yet. It seems the gauges are pretty light. I wish I had bought the A, D, G set so I could put the A and D on to use for the D and G. I think I'll put the D on to replace my G and try it out this week. I'll report back.

I finally received my Tiplops and had them installed. Out of respect to the OP, I started a new thread to document my adventure here: New strings! Tiplop guts from India

You know, neddyrow, I don't know why this is but it's actually more cost-effective if you buy the set you have and the A string separately, so if you still want to try that, you could even save five bucks! Where these folks come up with their prices, I'll never know...

This is just to correct some misunderstanding.
Tiplop Gut strings are strictly made from Sheep Intestine

Why The Tiplop Gut strings so cheap
because these guts are hand made and we are selling directly to buyer there is no middleman in between.

Our main concern is Satisfaction of our customers so if any one have any problem ,he can directly contact us.

Most of our customers praise about ous DG strings open heartedly.
but some are unsatisfied with E and A strings
for that we want to clear that E and A strings have larger diameter and Tiplop Works make it in High Twisting manner so it increase the density of Gut in string resulting more clear sound but the disadvantage is that gut become slightly harder.

this can be fix by applying Gut oil on the string
Tiplop Works specially develop a gut coating solution specially for E and A string.
And any our existing customer which have problem in E and A string can ask for that Gut coating Free Of Cost
just paying nominal postage USD 3.00

Our Main Aim is good Quality at affordable Pricing along with High Level of customers satisfaction
