Trying to figure out which strings they're using...

Anyone know the brand name of the Gold colored strings? I've seen a couple great players use them for the top 1 or 2 strings, Larry Grenadier for one... it looks entirely gold colored top to bottom. Also I found a picture of Matt Rybicki who uses them.. http://www.matthewrybickimusic.com/live/
There are pics on there.
If anyone knows I'd love to find out!
Thanks,
Mike

I believe it are gut-strings, but i wouldn't know the brand. It looks like the E+A are also guts, but wound-gut. If i had to make a very uneducated guess i'd say he uses Pirastro Chorda strings.

For further reading, check out the Gut-strings-thread, part one and part two.

Agreed. Esepcially when you look at the silk. The D and G are most certainly gut. You can check out more pictures on his site.

Thanks for the quick responses!
So based off the other gut string discussion the name Golden Spirals seems to be very fitting... anyone know if that's what it is for sure?
I got to talk with Larry Grenadier for awhile a few months ago and he told me he was using the newest set of Helicore Hybrids except for his G... which is the gold looking gut string... and man he sounds good. Obviously that's him though..

I asked Matthew what strings he uses on Facebook, we'll see.

He isn't using Golden Spirals. They have a yellow silk with violet colored spiral at the tailpiece end. Looks like plain gut. Grenadier uses Helicores with a Velvet G.

Yeah I got to talk with Larry between sets at a Mehldau trio gig, and he said he was using these new hybrids (he's endorsed by them)... saying they had changed the formula, and he was really liking them... all except for his G, which yeah seems to be a Velvet.

Hey all,

Thanks for your interest! (well, for Mike's interest at least )

The strings in the pic above are regular Chordas.

Currently I have Carlos Henriquez Chordas as my main strings.

I also like a full set Gotz guts, which are mostly what I'm using on the tracks on my website.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Best
Matthew
