Tying a broken string

About a week ago, through my own stupidity, I broke my brand-new BelCanto G string when I way-overtightened it using one of those cordless drill string winders that Bob G. sells (a great device, don't get me wrong).

Since I had a couple of weeks between gigs, I figured, what the heck, the break is above the nut so I'll just tie it back together (using a "square" knot) and see what happens...

Well, surprise, surprise, it's been working fine; it's holding its pitch and sounds great.

I've got a replacement on the way, but I'm curious if anybody else has had to resort to this before and how long the string lasted tied-together.

Well done! I wonder if that would also work for Dominants, which often break above the nut. (The break is often underneath the wrapping, though.) Now if I just knew what a square knot was...

Have a look here...

It may not be the best knot for this application, but it's the only one I knew.
