| | | | Unhappy with Spiro G and D Yup I said it. I play with a bow a lot, and it tends to scratch just a tad, but it gets noticable after a while. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what should be put on top? |

| | | | I've heard pirastro permanents are pretty boss and reasonably priced |

| | | | I had a similar problem, and to boot the pizz tone was too strident. Innovation 140B are working for me.

Oliv g is one of the most beautiful arco strings I've played.
That said.... the spiros are beautifully expressive arco strings. I don't know how much bow time you have under your belt. But they have a great arco voice if you spend the time to play them in.

Are you planning on going to a different set or sticking with the Spirocore E and A?

Arco simply wasn't working for me with Spiro's -- in addition to the scratchy tone, I was getting a lot of falsing, and pain in my RH fingers when I played pizz.
Life's short. Oddly enough the Obli's don't sound much different on my bass, but they are a lot easier to bow. |

They're also easier for me to bow than Spirocore Mittle (medium gauge). I also have a nice warm-sounding bow, which really helps. As has been already said, be patient and play your new Spirocores for a while. It can take quite awhile for them to settle down, but they can be very nice once they do. My current set of Weichs are about 2 years old and are really getting to be in their prime. |

Which Zyex...medium or light?
Which Spiro...mittel or weich?
I always ask for this info because I am thinking of trying a Zyex G and D with a Spiro mittel E and a Weich A.
Thanks.

| | | | They're actually starting to sound a bit better. I had just changed them at the time, and the sound is sorta settling in. Still the open string sounds a bit scratchy. Perhaps in the future ill change them around a bit. After I wear them down a bit |
