Used spiros value?

I have a year old set of spiros I'm lending to a buddy of mine and he offered to buy them. Not sure if I want to get rid of them (been thinking of trying the E out again) but whats a reasonable price on a year old set?

That's a little hard to say, it can depend on the condition. If they are in really good condition and have a lot of life left in them, they might be worth more. Have they been removed and reinstalled repeatedly; have they been clipped at the peg end; are the silks frayed; were they played hard and frequently? That makes them worth less. If a string is resold when it is relatively new and with light use, you can get perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 of the new price, but not usually for a year old set. A new set of Spiros goes for around $170 these days, so I'd say roughly 1/4 of the price, maybe $35-$50.

Talk about an 'expert opinion'!

I bought a set of Mittels on eBay for $90. Except for a little bit of silk coming unwound on the peg-end of one string, they were like new. I was (and am) very happy with the deal. (The G and D were soon replaced with gut, but that's another story.)

"Used string value"

Check the DB Classified Archive right here on TB if you want to know what things sell for.
