The Usual

I need to find a good hybrid string. I have a a jazz audition in Indiana on March 2 and a classical audition on March 3rd and I'd rather not mess around with changing strings between the two..I'm absolutely head over heals for the way Spiro Weichs sound and feel on my bass, but I need something with a quicker response when bowed and less scratch; especially on the E and A. For acro playing I like Obligatos, but they're just too thin sounding for my taste when played pizz.

From doing some searches and research on here, I'm thinking either Kolstein Heritage or Corelli's will do the trick. Any opinions?

Corellis should suit your needs. Search the forum archives. I think you will find broad support for them in this forum. Be warned that Corellis want to be bowed closer to the bridge. There are a few measures in Capuzzi where I had to adapt my technique from more conventional strings -moving closer to bridge. Are you really comfortable trying to adapt to new strings this close to a classical audition? Do you think that doing your jazz audition with orchestra strings is going to hurt your changes for that job?

I'm playing pretty close to the bridge now with the weichs to get them to speak. I'm planning on putting a set on and seeing how they do. If it's too strange, I'll go back to plan B which is just changing the strings.
