Velvet E and A with Olivs

The Evah Weich E & A have been on for more than a year and are nearing the end, I think. Now that individual Velvet strings are available, I'm thinking of trying them again. I tried Animas many years ago but missed the Olivs on top.

Has anyone here tried matching Velvets on the bottom with Olivs on top? I'm thinking of the Anima E and A. The Velvet website says Blues are brighter, how much brighter?

Back when I tried Animas I had the action really high. Does the action have to be higher, or will they be alright with a more "normal" action?

I don't have a lot of experience with Velvets, but the bit that I do convinced me that they need to be jacked up there much higher than steel strings or something like Evah Pirazzis do.

I also perceive them to have less tension than OLIVs, so with 2 of each on there, your overall tension will be a bit higher which might relieve some of that requirement. Maybe someone else has tried.

I liked the G with Animas. The tension was a bit higher but the olive matched well tone-wise.

My present set up are Velvet Animas E, A, D and Oliv G.

I have medium low action (I couldn't tell you the mm, but lower than one of my teacher's who likes relatively high action).

I took the Oliv D off because the tuning stability on the string was getting annoyingly bad.

The Animas start out a little stiff and bright, but with a week or two of lots of playing hours logged, they mellow out nicely, and the strings seem to match really well tone-wise.

The tension is much lower than the Evah Weichs. The Animas still have a little front end attack to them versus the pure bloom of gut strings.

It's been my favorite set-up so far. I am still early on my DB playing career though.
