Whats on your Englehardt?

I have Obligato's on my carved bass and I am thinking of putting either Obligato's or Spiro Weich's on my ES1. I use it for jazz with a K&K Bass Max. I like the boom that the Obligato's give but I also like the articulation I get from the Spiro's too.

Just wondering I could get some input on what works good for you all.

Thanks for any input.

I tried Spiro orchs, Labella 7710s, and Obligatos when I had my ES-9. The Spiros were good and the labellas were terrible to my ears. My personal preference was the Obligatos. I thought their mellow tone morely closely matched the sound I wanted to hear.

Steve, thanks for the info, were you happy with the Obligato E string?

We're using Pirastro Flat Chrome Steels on the '50 Kay now and liking the sound a lot better than the Spiro Orchs.

More on the front of the note and a lot less on the back and kinda punchier over all. Its a good sound.

superflexibles

My '41 Kay really likes TI Superflexibles. I have the 7710 labellas right now, and they're better than the spiros were, but the superflexibles had more bottom, a more natural sounding sustain, and are the most bowable of the three. In a few months if I haven't sold that bass I'll put some new supers on it.

I played and Engelhardt for a while. My favorite string that I actually played on that bass was the Dominant.

It just seemed have more character on the bass than anything else.

Not really, it definitely lacked the punch of the spiros. In fact, overall I think I lost a little volume with the Obs but I felt like the tone made for an even trade off.

On my current bass I have a set of Animas and all strings are POTENT. However, I never tried them on the e'hardt.

I had good luck with Eurosonics on mine, before I sold it--bigger tone than obligatos, easy on the fingers
