Those Olivs are a hard string to match, I feel like every E&A I put on my bass is lacking next to the Olivs.

Matching with those gut cores is tough.

Dominant A is nice and seemed a very good matchup. Dominant E wasn't bad either. I like really worn in Spiro Mittel or Stark E as well.

If I was playing the Olivs I'd do Dom A and Stark E like I am doing with the plain gut tops. I did that mix for a short time when I had the Olivs on my bass.

Dom A, Spiro mittel are serving me well here - I'm not a manly man enough for Starks

So you've got Oliv. G&D w/ a Dominant A and a Spiro Mittel E? Do you have that on a DB or EUB?
That's a combo I think I'd like to try on my German bass.

This is on a DB (German 1950-ish Juzek). The Dom. A sounds very close to my old Spiro. mittel A, but has just a little more 'snap' to match the Olivs.

I love the way it sounds and plays at present - particularly on acoustic-only gigs. I did some recording last week, and if I can find any tracks where I'm not embarassed about my playing I'll post them for all to hear.
