Wrapped gut string ID, suggestions?

I play lots of western swing and old time music and have been using a combination of strings on my old kay for years. Until about a year ago I was using plain gut on the D and G. Unexpectedly my D string broke at a festival and a friend of mine gave me an old string he had. He doesn't know what brand it is or where he got it. It's some sort of wrapped gut. I love this string... it's lasted three times longer than the plain gut, yet the feel, sound and look is the same! So I would like to get another D and a G of the same type, if I can figure out what it is and where to get them. It has a clear wrap that looks almost round wound, and both ends of the string have a bright gold thread winding with a touch of red thread t'wards the center. There is no ball-end, the string is just tied. Anybody know what these are or have suggestions of other long lasting wrapped gut strings that sound like the plain gut?

Thanks!!!

Sounds like the much sought after, no longer made Kaplan Golden Spiral. Similar D&G strings still in production are La Bella Golden Tone and Pirastro Pizzicato nylon wound. I am not sure of the lifespan of these strings. Hopefully someone who played them longer than I did will chime in.

Goldentone G and D last pretty long. They're great for old time music.

i had a full set of Pirastro Pizzicato with nylon wound G and D the nylon came off after like 3 years then the G fell a part made a few months after. then i replaced it with a Chorda G fell right in so i guess they still have life left. you can't tell what one is the new string. and i play the same kind of music as the op western swing, old timey stuff. they work very well
