Only bummer w/GC is they charge state sales tax on online orders if you live in a state where they have a B&M store.

Yep- with 6% sales tax in my state, that knocks the deal on the $800 amp I want from 20% off to about 15%. Still, thanks for the coupon code!

Can you use this if you order from a store, either through call in or online?

It says online code is "twenty" so I would think that you can.

Anyway, thanks for the coupon! The only crappy thing is it excludes virtually every brand that I am looking at buying. heck, I'm guessing that's over 3/4 GC items.

I saw an item on GC's used gear website and called the GC in Larchmont, NY to see if I could use the coupon on used gear. I would have to say that GC sales people are effing morons. "Uhhhhh...used items? We don't have used items. Uhhhh...coupons? We don't have 20% off coupons." That pretty much kills the deal for me.

Not to go off topic, but it would be great if GC kept their store inventory status up to date on the website. Other B&M retailers seem to have gotten this down several years ago, seems like none of the music stores can.

You may be in luck. They cannot advertise that they include those excluded brands, but from what I have been told, they will still honor them. At least that is what one of the managers at my local GC told me not too long ago. If you want a Fender and it is exluded, for example, call them and ask if they will let you buy the Fender with the 20% off coupon. They can't advertise that they'll do that, but they can still do it if you they want. Worked for me.

Yup, just as I thought. All you need to do is call and they will give you $20% off, no exclusions. Of course you can't get around the exclusions online, but call, and you are in. I ordered one of the Fender FSR Jazz basses for $499 ($399 net after 20% off). I remember that these were also at $499 before the Fender prices went up. They were priced a little higher than the other MIM Jazz basses since these have an upgraded Ash body and were made exclusively for GC/MF. But when the other Fender prices went up in price, these stayed the same, so really, already you are getting a good deal as compared to the other new MIMs, plus you get that 20% off, at least that is how I rationalize buying another Jazz. I saw one of these today at the local GC, they were priced in the store at $599. Wood looked spectacular. I didn't plug it in but it played very nice.

Use musiciansfriend.com, music123.com, or wwbw.com as an alternative to get no sales tax online. Guitar Center owns all of these companies and they are reliable and operate identically as GC.

So many people just like to ask without doing it. No guarantees, but Fender was excluded and they gave me 20% a Fender. I didn't even have to bargain, I just asked and they said yes.

I have never used wwbw but I have used GC, MF and M123 many times. I am in Washington state, there are GC stores here, all three websites charge me WA state sales tax. Damn, it is over 9%, really eats into the discount.

I tried to get a Markbass amp through GC with the 20%, and it was a brand they said was "excluded," despite not being listed. I emailed Musician's Friend's price match department, and they're going to match it. So same price but with no tax. Here's something to note though- the GC "Twenty" sale only lasts through tomorrow. Get a price match approved from MF, and you have two weeks to use the code they email you.

Yeah, many of these phone reps are not trained very well, so you can call back and get different answers depending on who you talk too. But regardless of if the brands are excluded or not, as long as you talk to a person that is in the know, you'll get the discount on anything.

Thanks for this Bryan! I just ordered a Line6 M9 from MF using your strategy and got 20% off, no tax and free shipping! WooHoo!

FSR P Bass would be only $360:
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....ass?sku=517886

And the link does say that it is not 20% off everything but the exceptions - it needs to be over $299.
