No affiliation and I never knew Korean-made Fenders (not Squiers) went back as far as 1983........

I'd be inclined to say that he's got his serial numbers mixed up, but it's possible that it's one of the first Fenders made in Asia. Even then, I thought they were only made in Japan at the time...

I dunno...

It might be a lemon or it might be a hidden gem, but I decided to pass on it. Here's a quoted reply from him:
"hi i still have it.
i live in the poconos its only like 20 min from scranton
i have a cork case and a gig bag both are crap i wont lie.
it also comes with a zoom 506 multi effect pedal with power supply.
the only problem is that the tone knob is loose i dont know how to tighten it.
serial number is CN300688
if you try to look it up from fender it says Korean-made dating unclear.
sorry i dont have other photos of it. a local music shop offered me 500 for it trade in but they do trade ins only and not cash."

I also posted in the "Pit" and got these responses:
"I think the early 80's is when Fender had no USA production? It's also an era when MIK was not the positive sign that it has become lately. This is not just a change in awareness, but an improvement in products.

This is not a reflection on the ability of any nation and its people to do quality work. It has everything to do with the varying quality assurance standards that the trademark owners spec for product from different points along the global wage scale. It's a sort of artificially imposed sliding scale, and some places move up the scale as new places join in from below.

IOW, The Koreans of 1982 were fully capable to deliver the quality we expect of 2002 Koreans, but the trademark owners weren't yet specifying the later level. Same with 1972 Japan vs 1992 Japan."

"From the headstock shot, it looks like it's one of Fender's Affinity series. I know there were also some '90s era Fenders made in India."

Indian Fenders...?.........
