| Yeah, I see this thread is two years old but I just picked one up at the Guitar Center yesterday!
It was clearance priced for $299 so I checked it out with my bass and one of my GK cabinets. Loved the sound, was getting ready to close the deal, and the thing starts messing up on me, playing some really nasty distorted sounds. I told the Dept. Mgr. that this was definitely a "Deal Killer" but perhaps one of their techs could look at it and fix what seemed to me like a simple bad connection somewhere.
The General Manager heard what was going on and offered it to me for $100 "All Sales Final." I have quite a bit of experience with electronics so I saw this as an easy fix and a great deal!
Took it home and I believe to have isolated the problem down to the gain control. turning the gain up and down caused the problem to come and go so I took some "Detoxit" (that Radio Shack "Raped" me for) and squirted the stuff everywhere I could around the gain pot and checked a few other things and then let the thing sit. Messed around with it some before I went to bed and could not make the "Issue" return. If everything remains "Trouble-Free" the rest of the week, I might just take it to my gigs this weekend!
The thing sounds incredible when it does not sound like crap! Everything I was really looking for! If I can get this one little issue sorted out, it will become my main amp and my Carvin goes on the selling block because I am done with that thing!
And I also like the aesthetics much more than I do the typical "Industrial" looking models - Looks a lot like the "Fusion 550".............it will look pretty killer with my two "Vintage" GK Cabinets too! |
